Aren’t all professionals who design buildings architects?
No. Not all businesses offering “architectural services” are architects. Architects have particular training and skill in high quality design, construction and the professional delivery of projects. The title “architect” is protected by law however the word “architectural” is not. All qualified “architects” are registered in the UK register of architects which is maintained by the Architects Registration Board and can be checked here http://www.arb.org.uk
Only someone who has successfully completed a 7 year course in the design, specification and construction of buildings and has passed the professional practice examination is entitled to use the term “architect” and will become registered. Thereafter, an architect can become registered with one or both of the professional bodies listed below which entitles then to use the term “chartered architect”.
