Barras Residence

The Brief

The existing stone built cottage had been previously converted and extended in the early 1990s. A new family room was required as well as a utility room, associated WC and a double garage.

Design Issues

The kitchen had space for family dining, but did not make the most of the views to the rear of the property. The existing family space was already fairly generous, but a larger family room was required to create a link to the kitchen and maximise its use as the heart of the home.

The Solution

New 50m2 extension to the side of the property, to accommodate a new open plan living room and dining room with views over the garden and countryside. Large airy space, open to the apex of the roof, with floor to ceiling glazing and efficient under floor heating. New master bedroom with en-suite bathroom in the current kitchen accommodation. New patio doors installed and a new raised terrace overlooking the garden. Existing living room re-fitted as new dining/kitchen with new utility room with direct access to the garden. New entrance, WC, storage and garage.
